OH Yes: Army launches own Condom Brand

About 1.3 million Ugandans are living with HIV/AIDS

Uganda's army UPDF launched their own brand of condoms called Ulinzi on Monday.
Ulinzi is a Swahili word which means "protection". The condom brand was launched at the UPDF's land forces headquarters in Bombo.

The move is part of the country's main strategy and efforts to fight against HIV/AIDS. The condoms were launched with support from Programme for Accessible Health Communication and Education.
Chief of Staff Land Forces Brig Leopold Kyanda said: "HIV has continued to pose a significant public health and security challenge and Ulinzi condom is going to be a milestone for HIV/AIDS prevention strategy, we will continue to ensure that all our plans focus towards HIV Prevention".

The condom brand is covered in a camouflage protection seem with a Swahili slogan saying "Usiende Nyama Kwa Nyama" -- to mean un-latexed sexual intercourse.

UNAIDS estimates that by the end of 2017, about 1.3 million people in Uganda were living with HIV.

It further estimates that the number of people enrolled on antiretroviral therapy (ART) is about 956,569 - accounting for 72%.
