Colombia fans urge James Rodriguez's girlfriend to ‘leave him alone’ for England game

COLOMBIA supporters have jokingly urged the rumoured girlfriend of James Rodriguez to stop distracting him during the World Cup.

Russian model Helga Lovekaty has received a torrent of flippant messages telling her to stop diverting Rodriguez’s attention from the football.

Rodriguez, the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner, did not feature in Columbia’s opening game of Group H against Japan because of a calf injury.

But the Real Madrid forward, 26, was a crucial player in Colombia’s 3-0 win over Poland in the second game last week.

He was hauled off at half-time in the Columbia’s final game of the group against Senegal, leaving coach Jose Pekerman "extremely concerned" about his injury.
Fans are hoping the talisman will be fit to play in the knockout stages on Tuesday next week, when Colombia face England for a place in the quarter final.

In the meantime, tongue-in-cheek fans have taken to social media to have a light-hearted dig at his supposed girlfriend Lovekaty, telling her to let him be during the tournament.

One posted: “Hey, go soft with james, do not leave him injured, or if you do [you’ll] get into trouble with the Colombians.”

A second wrote: “Leave Rodriguez alone for now please? He has a World Cup on his hands! Thanks!

A third commented: “I don’t know how James Rodriguez ignores you.”

Many supporters posted emojis of Colombia flags and messages of support for Rodriguez wishing him a quick recovery.

Following his early substitution against Senegal, Colombia fans mocked Rodriguez on social media, suggesting he had left the pitch to see Lovekaty.

One wrote: “This game is so bad, James went to see Helga Lovekaty.”

Another posted: “James entered the dressing room because Helga Lovekaty is waiting for him.”

Ahead of the World Cup, Lovekaty shared a picture of herself posing outside a football stadium including a message welcoming fans to the tournament.

In the post, shared with her four million followers, she wrote: “Welcome to the #WorldCup in Russia. The opening ceremony will take place tomorrow. And I'm already here and will be happy to meet with my fans. I hope you enjoy Russia and we will have great fun with the game.”

Rodriguez has been speculated to be in a relationship with the Russian model after splitting with his wife Daniela Ospina in July 2017.

The pair are said to have been introduced by Cristiano Ronaldo, his teammate at Real Madrid. (The Sun)
