Olympic world champion's dad seriously hurt in deadly TRIPLE shooting at boxing club

THE father of an Olympic champion boxer has been suffered a "very, very serious injury" in a horror triple shooting this morning.

A 30-year-old man has died after the attack at Bray Boxing Club in Ireland at around 6.55am this morning, which came "totally out of the blue".

Club manager Peter Taylor, 57 – dad of Ireland world and Olympic champion boxer Katie Taylor – and another man aged 35 were rushed to hospital with wounds.

Both men suffered "very, very serious injuries", police said.

But both men are not thought to be in a critical condition.

The trio are thought to have been among up to 20 people training at the club between 6.30am and 6.45am when the lone gunman entered the building and opened fire, possibly with a handgun.

Lightweight Katie Taylor – who won gold at the London Olympics in 2012 and is a world boxing champion – began her career at the club, established by her dad.

Garda Superintendent Pat Ward said: "We are not giving out full details of the injuries received - what we can say is they are not life-threatening," he said.
"They are very, very serious but they are not life-threatening at the moment, as we understand it."

The officer said the attacker was wearing some form of headgear - a balaclava or helmet - and possibly also a high-visibility yellow jacket.

"We don't know if it was indiscriminate or what the motive was, that's something we are trying to determine at the minute, and we just can't exactly say or confirm what the motive was," Mr Ward said.

"We believe there was in the region of 15 to 20 people (in the gym). It was a normal session on a normal day and it was being undertaken by people who normally undertake that session in the early hours of the morning.

"This came totally out of the blue - it was normal day for all of those people in the gym."

Chris Fox, chairman of Bray Municipal Council, part of Wicklow County Council, was among local officials who named Mr Taylor as one of the men who had been shot.

Fellow councillor Michael O'Connor said: "Pete Taylor was shot."

Cops hunting the gunmen said they are searching for a suspect who fled in a silver-coloured Volkswagen Caddy with Northern Ireland registration plates.

The vehicle was captured on CCTV cameras leaving the scene.

A police helicopter has been unleashed and is now circling the area.

Local Sinn Fein politician John Brady tweeted: "Absolutely shocking news coming from Bray Boxing club this morning.

"Another dark day for Bray."

Ireland's health minister Simon Harris, who represents the constituency of Wicklow, tweeted: "Shocking news in Bray this morning. I have no doubt that the Gardai are doing all they can to apprehend those responsible."
