Here’s what Deepika Padukone has to say about ‘Verna’ ban…

Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone has spoken out against the ban placed on Pakistani flick Verna on Wednesday, stating that it was sad how a small section of people chose to ban movies.

Deepika Padukone is known for not biting her tongue and providing her opinions freely. Recently the actress was asked in an interview regarding the ban placed on Pakistani director Shoaib Mansoor’s film Verna. The actress denounced the ban and said that it was sad.

“Yes, It’s sad that a small section of people don’t understand the power of cinema and what it can do to the world. It brings people together, it spreads love, it’s fascinating what cinema can do and it’s sad that a certain group of people choose to not recognise that,” she said.

The actress is in the news since calls have intensified for a ban to be placed on her upcoming flick Padmavati that also stars Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.

The movie has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has worked with both Deepika and Ranveer before as well.

Verna focuses on the topic of rape which is considered a taboo topic in Pakistan and features the story of a resilient young woman against an influential individual.

Verna has been banned by Islamabad’s Film Censor Board Committee.
