Browns’ story on Josh Rosen’s girlfriend gets even more bizarre

Josh Rosen provided another interesting piece of the quizzical puzzle regarding how Cleveland’s brain trust evaluated this year’s crop of quarterbacks.

During a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” the Cardinals rookie filled in a few blanks in Alonzo Highsmith’s intriguing tale from last week, after the Browns’ VP of player personnel said he came to a troublesome conclusion about Rosen, 21, following a brief encounter at the airport with UCLA’s volleyball team, which Rosen’s girlfriend, Zana Muno, is part of.

“I was at an airport,” Highsmith recalled. “UCLA’s volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. He’s this or that. We all know how people talk. So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, ‘What’s Rosen like?’ He said, ‘Aaaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. She’s one of the players. She’s over there.’ I’m like, ‘All right, coach. That’s good enough.'”

Highsmith said “something about him bothered me,” and Rosen is curious as to how the executive reached that conclusion without even chatting with his lady love.

“I thought it was interesting that he didn’t talk to my girlfriend,” the quarterback said, per CBS. “Maybe he was scared someone actually saying something good about me? I don’t know, I thought it was funny.”

The Browns selected Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in last month’s draft. Rosen slid to No. 10, where Arizona traded up to get the UCLA product.

“It’s amazing that you can pull a red flag from something with literally zero information,” Rosen said. “Like, he literally pulled absolutely no information from this encounter and it managed to be a red flag.”

Rosen’s attitude and maturity were consistently questioned leading up to the draft. After being the last of the top four signal-callers selected, Rosen said “nine mistakes were made” ahead of him.

On Sunday, Rosen posted a screenshot of UCLA’s beach volleyball championship game, in which Muno and the team took home the first title in school history.
